Pillars of Creation
by Sean Lyon
image belongs to NASA and was taken by the brilliant Hubble telescope

I will never traverse the twenty
four trillion miles

where stars are kneaded
like dough and our bones

are baked in the furnace
of all births,

admixtures of stardust
and light years,

but I can lean in
one last inch

to kiss you
without knowing

and feel fire,
and when I sweep

an eyelash off your
cheek my thumb passes

a corner of your smile,
reminding me I’m living.

Sean’s poem ‘Pillars of Creation’ was inspired by the late, great Hubble Telescope, who captured a family portrait of the universe recreating itself, star by star by star.

A retired educator, Dave Sims now dwells and creates in the mountains of central Pennsylvania. His comix and digital paintings can be seen in the Nashville Review, Talking Writing, Nunum, Arkana, Raw Art Review, Burningword, and Stonecoast.
