Mourning Through the iPhone Alarm
by Emily Jo Scalzo
mourning through the iphone

Yesterday, still asleep,
I tried to answer your call;
‘alarm’ reads ‘Adam’
to heavy eyes,
and for a moment
most mornings
I believe I am
waking to the miracle
of a phone call
from the grave

Ed’s Lion
by Reg Darling
Ed-2

In the early sixties, in Pennsylvania, Uncle Ed said he saw a mountain lion on Bobb’s Creek Road, a few miles from his camp in Forest County. Knowing Ed’s truly prodigious whiskey consumption, another uncle asked, “How much did you have to drink that night?”

“Oh, I was drunk as hell, but I’m not crazy,” Ed replied.

Reg Darling lives in Vermont with his wife and two cats. When he isn’t writing, he paints and wanders in the woods.

Emily Jo Scalzo has an MFA in Fiction from California State University, Fresno. She currently resides in Muncie, Indiana, and is an assistant professor at Ball State University.
